ABOUT

About the Author – Barry Finlay

Barry

I’m the author of eleven award-winning and Amazon bestselling books. I had an extensive career in financial management before retiring in 2004, after thirty two years with the Canadian federal government. I’m a Chartered Accountant (CA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) who dabbles in the arts as I’m also an award-winning decorative wood carver. Since retiring, I have divided my time between being an author, working as a consultant on financial policy matters, travel, playing golf, climbing mountains, philanthropy and enjoying my three grandchildren.

I have always tried to stay active but working at a desk for so many years eventually catches up. A visit to the family doctor, along with a number of other converging events, encouraged me to take hold of my life and gave me the motivation to climb a mountain. The desire to pursue philanthropy was spawned while growing up on the family farm in Rapid City, Manitoba, Canada and was nurtured by the experience of meeting the African children who would directly benefit from our fundraising.

In 2013, I was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for philanthropic work in Tanzania.

On Becoming an Author:

My interest in becoming an author grew throughout my career while my skills were being honed by authoring countless financial policies. Now that time is a little more readily available, I have taken the opportunity to put those skills to good use. The experience of climbing Africa’s highest mountain at age 60 with one of our sons, and discovering the satisfaction of reaching a goal and giving others the opportunity to achieve theirs, was a book waiting to be written. Kilimanjaro and Beyond, written with one of our sons, Chris, was my first novel. Ten more booksffollowed: the humorous travel memoir , I Guess We Missed The Boat, and five suspense/thrillers in The Marcie Kane Thriller Collection: The Vanishing Wife, A Perilous Question, Remote Access, Never So Alone (novella) and The Burden of Darkness. The first three books in the Jake Scott Series, Searching For Truth, The Guardians of Truth, and The Secret Truth were launched in 2021, 2022, and 2023 respectively. Since then he I have released a book called Just Keep Climbing: Inspirational Stories for Overcoming Challenges and Living Life, a retrospective about the lessons learned when I climbed the mountain plus the stories of eight amazing individuals who are overcoming their own challenges in a heroic way.

I proudly publish independently under my banner of Keep On Climbing. You can read more about my philanthropic work with Plan Canada and Wounded Warriors Canada at www.keeponclimbing.com. In the meantime, please become familiar with my books and leave a comment. If you do read and enjoy one or all of my books, please take the time to leave a short review on some of the retail sites.

I live with my wife, Evelyn, in Ottawa, Canada.
